Albudoor Kindergarten

About Albudoor

There have been many developments in educational thinking over time. The leadership of this nation is keen to ensure that the education in the UAE keeps pace with the latest research and that we provide the very best education possible for your children.

Al Budoor KG has been established to establish a way that this can be done in a bi-literate setting.

Major points about education at Al Budoor.

o    Both Arabic and English languages are valued and we appreciate parent support in this.

o    Native English speakers have been employed to ensure that the standard of English language presented to the children is the best possible.

o    When the English language is used as the language of instruction, the Arabic speaking teachers, firstly prepare the children in advance (usually  the day before) regarding the concepts and content, to ensure we are building prior knowledge.  Arabic teachers then ask the children the more probing questions during instruction to ensure students have  understanding in their native language.

o    The framework of our curriculum is our Continuum of Learning.  This has been produced to fit with the ADEC Standards and the Frameworks provided by the ADEC Steps to Literacy Team. This articulates the skills and knowledge the children need to learn and provides a basis for tracking student progress.  This too is constantly under review for improvement.   It does not matter what the learning context is.  For example we could be using books about the sea/ocean (as KG1 currently are) or we could be using books about space to guide our learning.  The main things are that we guide the children to be:

-Good communicators in both languages

-Good thinkers

-Fit and healthy children

-Children aware of UAE culture and heritage

-Good community members

-Creative children

o    The emphasis of our curriculum is on Active Learning.  Children aged 3-5years should not be expected to sit and listen for long periods of time.  They should be actively involved in their learning – learning through discovery.   Good teachers know how to engage the children, follow their interests and guide their learning. They do not have children sit and rote learn or have them practice pages of letters or numbers.  They find ways to make meaning from books, numbers etc.

Homework:  Because of our emphasis on active learning we will not supply work sheets for homework.  Good ideas for helping children at home:

o    Provide experiences – cooking, going to park / zoo etc and discuss responses, feelings.  Ask questions who, why, how etc.

o    Encourage them to play and communicate with others. Balance, body awareness and hand eye coordination are very important for future learning.

o    Let them cut, colour, draw, write, make patterns.

o    Read, read, read with them.  Ask them to tell you the story. Ask them to predict what will happen next or why something happened.

Punctuality and attendance:  It really is important that the children attend school whenever they are well and that they arrive by start of school.  If not they miss all the oral language work in both Arabic and English that happens every morning.  Oral language is the basis for all other language development.

Healthy choices:  We provide the children with daily opportunities to be active.  We demonstrate and encourage safe play. Additionally we provide fresh fruit as part of the children’s daily breakfasts.  Please assist the school, but not providing lunch box items which do not promote healthy eating.
